Colombian equities closed in positive territory on Tuesday, driven primarily by advances in the Industrials, Services and Agriculture sectors. The benchmark COLCAP index finished the trading day up 1.86%.
Among the strongest performers on the COLCAP were Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana SA (BVC:GRUPOSURA), which climbed 3.87% - a gain of 2,340.00 points - to finish at 62,840.00. Not all large names moved higher. Organizacion Terpel SA (BVC:TERPEL) was the weakest performer among the listed sample, falling 1.68% or 300.00 points to close at 17,600.00. Promigas (BVC:PROMIGAS) declined 1.25%, losing 80.00 points to end at 6,300.00, while Corporacion Financiera Colombiana SA (BVC:CORFICOLCF) slipped 1.13% or 260.00 points to finish at 22,700.00.
The market breadth detail in the trading summary contains a data limitation in the published feed: it reports that "Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Colombia Stock Exchange by 0 to 0." That statement reflects the form of the available data rather than an actionable breadth ratio.
Commodity contracts tracked alongside equities showed declines for the session. US coffee C for December delivery fell 1.01% or 3.15 to $308.35. US cocoa for December delivery dropped 3.87%, down 262.00 points to $6,509.00. The December Gold Futures contract lost 2.36%, a decline of 105.80, to trade at $4,375.70 a troy ounce.
Foreign-exchange rates recorded modest moves. The USD/COP rate was up 0.06% to 3,171.19, while BRL/COP rose 0.06% to 615.10. The US Dollar Index Futures finished the session higher as well, up 0.24% at 99.62.
Market participants monitoring the session will note the contrast between the strong gains among selected industrial, service and agricultural names and the declines in certain energy and financial stocks. Commodity prices and currency fluctuations also registered shifts that are relevant to exporters, importers and commodity-linked businesses.
