Moroccan stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the Moroccan All Shares index finishing the session down 0.27% in Casablanca. The market slide was driven in part by weakness in the Utilities, Banking and Mining sectors.
At the close, Marocaine pour le Commerce et l’Industrie Banque SA (CSE:BCI) led the gainers on the Moroccan All Shares, rising 2.45% or 15.00 points to end the day at 619.00. Cartier Saada (CSE:CRS) advanced 2.05% or 0.45 points to close at 22.45, while Nationale d’Electrolyse et de Petrochimie Ste SA (CSE:SNP) was higher by 2.05% or 7.00 points to finish at 349.00.
On the downside, Med Paper (CSE:MDP) recorded the largest percentage loss among listed stocks, slipping 4.12% or 1.06 points to 24.65 at the close. SMI (CSE:SMI) declined 3.65% or 250.00 points to end the session at 6,600.00, and Hps (CSE:HPS) fell 2.99% or 20.00 points to finish at 650.00.
Market breadth favored decliners, with 32 stocks falling compared with 16 that advanced. Ten issuers finished unchanged.
Commodities moved notably during the trading day. Crude oil for October delivery rose 4.30% or 4.13 to $100.18 a barrel. Brent crude for November delivery increased 4.35% or 4.40 to $105.61 a barrel. In contrast, the December Gold Futures contract fell 1.42% or 63.26 to trade at $4,397.44 a troy ounce.
Currency pairs involving the Moroccan dirham showed modest movement. EUR/MAD was up 0.35% at 10.91, while USD/MAD was essentially unchanged, moving 0.02% to 9.37.
Across broader markets, the US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09%, trading at 98.90 as of the same session.
