Regional officials reported that a coordinated series of Russian strikes across three Ukrainian regions killed six civilians and injured dozens, including attacks near Nikopol opposite the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Authorities also said a separate overnight drone strike in Sumy region killed four earlier, and Kyiv observed a day of mourning after a deadly strike on the capital the previous day.

Key Points

  • Multiple coordinated strikes killed six people across Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Sumy regions, with dozens injured.
  • The Dnipropetrovsk strikes included more than 50 separate attacks using drones, artillery and bombings; Nikopol was among affected towns opposite the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
  • Kyiv observed a day of mourning after a separate missile and drone attack the previous day killed at least 30 people.

Regional authorities in Ukraine reported that Russian attacks on Friday resulted in the deaths of six people across three separate areas, and left multiple others wounded.

In the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region, local officials said more than 50 strikes - involving drones, artillery and aerial bombings - killed three people. Two of those fatalities occurred near the town of Nikopol, which sits on the far bank of the Dnipro River from the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said on Telegram. Hanzha added that 12 people were injured in the barrage.

Further to the east, two fatalities were reported in Zaporizhzhia city after a strike to the northeast of the city, Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov said. The attack also wounded 17 people, according to Fedorov, who noted that Zaporizhzhia has been a frequent recent target of deadly strikes.

Near Ukraine's northeastern border, Regional Governor Oleh Hryhorov reported that glide bombs launched by Russian forces killed one person in the city of Sumy. Officials have described efforts by Russian forces to establish a buffer zone in that area.

Earlier reports from prosecutors indicated that an overnight Russian drone strike on a house in the northern part of Sumy region had killed four people.

The accounts provided by regional authorities were described as not independently verifiable. Meanwhile, the capital, Kyiv, was observing a day of mourning following a Russian missile and drone attack the previous day that officials said killed at least 30 people, marking the deadliest strike on the city so far this year.

The reports outline a pattern of multi-faceted attacks - including drones, artillery, glide bombs and aerial bombing - that have struck population centers across multiple regions. Local governors gave casualty and injury figures and identified specific locations affected, including areas adjacent to a major nuclear power plant.

Information about the incidents comes from regional statements, and at least one earlier overnight drone attack in Sumy region was cited by prosecutors as having killed four people.

Risks

  • Casualty and damage reports cited by regional officials could not be independently verified - uncertainty in situational reporting affects assessments of security and humanitarian needs.
  • Continued strikes near populated areas and close to energy infrastructure - including proximity to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant - present ongoing risks to civilian safety and regional energy operations.
  • Persistent attacks across multiple regions heighten short-term instability for transportation and logistics systems operating in or through affected areas.
