(TYO:6954) dropped 14.31%, losing 1,021.00 points to end at 6,114.00, while TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332) declined 11.97%, down 839.00 points to 6,171.00.

Market breadth favored losers, with 2,212 issues falling and 1,305 advancing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. A total of 235 stocks finished unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility index, which gauges implied volatility for Nikkei 225 options, moved lower - down 26.16% to 29.38.

Commodities and currencies registered notable moves. Crude oil for September delivery fell 6.57%, a decline of $5.56, settling at $79.11 per barrel. Brent for October delivery was down 5.81%, or $5.11, to $82.82 per barrel. In metals, the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.26%, adding $10.80 to trade at $4,117.80 a troy ounce.

On the currency front, USD/JPY eased 0.52% to 156.76 while EUR/JPY slipped 0.54% to 180.69. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 99.67.
