- Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (TYO:5706) rose 7.35%, up 1,560.00 points to end the day at 22,795.00.

Market breadth on the Tokyo Stock Exchange showed more falling issues than rising ones: 1,876 stocks declined while 1,592 advanced and 283 finished unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility index, which reflects implied volatility in Nikkei 225 options, eased 1.02% to 28.15.
Commodities and currencies
In commodities trading, crude oil for October delivery fell 1.84%, or $1.88, to $100.03 a barrel. Brent oil for November delivery dropped 2.06%, or $2.16, to $102.66 a barrel. December gold futures moved higher, rising 0.81% or $35.64 to trade at $4,435.34 a troy ounce.
On the currency front, USD/JPY strengthened 0.58% to 156.88, while EUR/JPY increased 0.68% to 180.17. The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 100.00.
