Spanish equities closed higher in Madrid on Wednesday, with the benchmark IBEX 35 up 0.17% at the end of trade to register a fresh record high. The rise was driven by advances in the Consumer Services, Consumer Goods and Telecoms & IT sectors, which supported the broader market move.
On an individual stock basis, the top performers on the IBEX 35 were:
- Indra A (BME:IDR) - gained 3.05% (up 1.82 points) to finish at 61.42.
- Puig Brands SA (BME:PUIGb) - rose 2.53% (up 0.42 points) to close at 17.00.
- Fluidra (BME:FLUI) - advanced 2.07% (up 0.41 points) to trade at 20.26.
At the other end of the board, the session's weakest performers included several large-cap names:
- Acciona (BME:ANA) - fell 2.98% (down 6.40 points) to end the day at 208.20.
- Cellnex Telecom SA (BME:CLNX) - declined 2.74% (down 0.73 points) to 25.87.
- Corporacion Acciona Energias Renovables SA (BME:ANE) - slipped 2.60% (down 0.54 points) to 20.22.
Market breadth on the Madrid Stock Exchange showed more decliners than advancers: 95 stocks fell versus 89 that rose, while 23 shares finished unchanged.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery recorded a notable increase, rising 3.39% (up 140.91) to $4,293.51 a troy ounce. Crude oil prices moved in opposite directions by contract: Crude oil for September delivery fell 0.28% (down 0.21) to $75.56 a barrel, while the October Brent contract nudged up 0.28% (up 0.22) to trade at $79.58 a barrel.
Currency markets were largely steady. EUR/USD was unchanged 0.10% at 1.15, and EUR/GBP was unchanged 0.01% at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures edged lower, down 0.13% to 99.61.
