Finland's equity market finished the trading session lower on Wednesday, as downward pressure in Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Technology sectors pushed the benchmark into negative territory.
At the close in Helsinki, the OMX Helsinki 25 slipped 0.61%.
The session's strongest performers on the OMX Helsinki 25 included Outokumpu Oyj (HE:OUT1V), which advanced 2.35% - rising 0.13 points to finish at 5.44. Orion Oyj B (HE:ORNBV) also made gains, adding 1.37% or 1.10 points to close at 81.50, and Kemira Oyj (HE:KEMIRA) was up 0.99%, an increase of 0.17 points to 17.40 in late trade.
On the downside, Nordea Bank Abp (HE:NDAFI) was among the weakest names, retreating 2.42% or 0.43 points to end at 17.32. Neste Oyj (HE:NESTE) declined 2.37%, a drop of 0.69 points to close at 28.42, while Wartsila Oyj Abp (HE:WRT1V) fell 2.11%, losing 0.63 points to finish at 29.28.
Market breadth in Helsinki showed more decliners than advancers: 88 stocks fell compared with 83 that rose, and 21 issues finished unchanged.
Commodity markets moved unevenly during the session. Brent oil for October delivery gained 0.29% or $0.23, settling at $79.59 a barrel. By contrast, U.S. crude for September delivery eased 0.17% or $0.13 to $75.64 a barrel. Precious metals posted a strong uptick as the December gold futures contract rose 3.38% or $140.45 to trade at $4,293.05 a troy ounce.
Foreign-exchange rates were relatively stable. The euro was broadly unchanged against major crosses mentioned: EUR/USD was essentially flat at 1.15 (unchanged by 0.12%), while EUR/GBP moved negligibly to 0.86 (unchanged by 0.01%). The U.S. Dollar Index futures ticked down 0.13% to 99.61.
Taken together, the trading day left Helsinki's benchmark modestly lower as losses in several key sectors outweighed gains in a handful of industrial and healthcare-related stocks. Volume and breadth data indicated a market with mixed sentiment, where declines slightly outnumbered advances.
