MONTREAL, Sept. 21, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CN (TSX: CNR) (NYSE: CNI) today launched its annual Rail Safety Week campaign to raise awareness about the risks of unsafe behaviour around railway tracks and property.
From September 21-27, CN Police Services and CN employees will be engaging with communities across North America to mark Rail Safety Week and reinforce a simple but critical message: safety around railway tracks and crossings is a shared responsibility. Together they will work to raise awareness about the dangers of trespassing on railway property and ignoring signals at crossings. These unsafe behaviors can have devastating consequences, but they are also preventable when we all do our part.

The statistics are striking: North America sees over 2,000 crossing accidents and 1,000 trespassing incidents annually. In Canada alone, 2025 recorded 252 such incidents, resulting in 69 fatalities and 60 serious injuries. These numbers underscore the critical need for continued education and awareness.
Rail Safety is a Shared Responsibility
CN is committed to doing its part to keep its network and the communities it travels through safe. That means investing in safe railway operations, working closely with communities and first responders, and supporting education and enforcement efforts that help reduce unsafe behaviour around tracks and crossings.
But rail safety extends beyond the railway. Drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and community partners all have a role to play. Staying off railway tracks and property, obeying crossing signals and never attempting to beat a train are simple choices that can save lives.
For more than two decades, CN has worked with communities to champion rail safety. In 2025, more than 403 municipalities across North America formally recognized Rail Safety Week through resolutions and proclamations. This year, we are once again asking our community partners to help amplify this important message and encourage safe behaviour around railways.
