At Least Four Palestinians Killed in Gaza in Latest Israeli Strikes, Medics Report

Health authorities in Gaza say Israeli strikes and gunfire killed at least four Palestinians on Sunday, including an airstrike near Al-Mughraqa, shelling and gunfire near Gaza City, and a shooting in Khan Younis. The Israeli military said it is investigating the reported incidents and separately reported it had killed several Hamas militants since Friday. Violence has continued despite an October 2025 ceasefire, with heavy casualty figures reported since October 2023 and since the ceasefire took effect.

Key Points

  • Medics in Gaza reported four Palestinian fatalities on Sunday: one killed by an airstrike near Al-Mughraqa, two killed by gunfire and tank shelling near Gaza City, and a 40-year-old woman shot dead in Khan Younis.
  • The Israeli military said it is investigating the reported strikes and separately reported killing several Hamas militants since Friday.
  • The article does not provide specific information on effects to economic sectors or markets; it focuses on reported casualties, military actions, and claims about ceasefire violations.

CAIRO, April 26 - Health officials in the Gaza Strip reported that Israeli military activity on Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least four Palestinians.

Medics said an airstrike by Israeli forces struck near the central village of Al-Mughraqa, killing one person. In a separate episode, Israeli gunfire and tank shelling in the vicinity of Gaza City killed two others, according to the same health sources. In the south of the territory, health officials said Israeli forces shot and killed a 40-year-old woman in Khan Younis.

The Israeli military stated it was looking into the reported strikes. In a separate statement, the military said it had struck and killed several Hamas militants in Gaza since Friday.

The incidents come amid a pattern of ongoing violence despite a ceasefire agreed in October 2025. Local medics report that at least 800 Palestinians have been killed since that ceasefire deal took effect, while Israel says militants have killed four of its soldiers over the same period. Both Israel and Hamas have accused the other of violations of the ceasefire.

Gaza health authorities report that more than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since the Gaza war began in October 2023, and they say most of those killed have been civilians. Israeli tallies attribute 1,200 deaths to Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel.

Details remain limited to the accounts provided by health officials in Gaza and statements from the Israeli military. The military has not provided immediate confirmation of each specific incident described by medics, and said only that it was reviewing the reported strikes while also reporting its own operations against militants.

The sequence of events reported on Sunday underscores continuing tensions and deadly incidents in Gaza despite the presence of a ceasefire framework. Reporting on fatalities and responsibility for particular strikes remains based on statements from Gaza health officials and the Israeli military as described above.

Risks

  • Continued hostilities despite the October 2025 ceasefire create ongoing risk of further civilian casualties and instability in Gaza - this affects humanitarian conditions in the territory.
  • Disagreement between Israel and Hamas over responsibility for ceasefire violations creates uncertainty about future escalations - the article notes both sides blame each other.
  • Reporting relies on Gaza health officials and statements from the Israeli military; limited independent verification of specific incidents introduces uncertainty about full circumstances surrounding each reported fatality.
