Hadron Energy Inc. saw its shares increase in premarket trade after the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission accepted Revision 3 of the company’s Quality Assurance Program Description for reference in future licensing applications under 10 CFR Part 52. The NRC found the program compliant with applicable regulations and industry standards, allowing Hadron to cite the accepted document in subsequent license filings.

Key Points

  • Hadron Energy shares rose 5.5% in premarket trading after NRC acceptance of Revision 3 of its Quality Assurance Program Description.
  • The NRC found the program acceptable for referencing in future licensing applications under 10 CFR Part 52 and concluded it complies with applicable regulations and industry standards.
  • The acceptance covers quality assurance across the full lifecycle of the Hadron Micro-Modular Reactor and enables Hadron to cite the accepted program in subsequent Part 52 filings, including Combined License or Manufacturing License applications.

Hadron Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: HDRN) experienced a premarket stock uptick of 5.5% Thursday following formal acceptance by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the company’s Quality Assurance Program Description, Revision 3.

The NRC staff issued a final safety evaluation stating that Revision 3 is acceptable for referencing in future licensing applications submitted under 10 CFR Part 52. That determination establishes a quality assurance framework for the Hadron Micro-Modular Reactor that spans the project lifecycle - from design and manufacturing through construction, operations, and decommissioning.

In its evaluation, NRC staff concluded that Hadron Energy’s quality assurance program meets applicable NRC regulations and industry standards. According to the NRC finding, the program is consistent with the expectations set out by the agency and relevant technical benchmarks.

Hadron Energy is noted as the first light-water microreactor company to receive NRC acceptance of a quality assurance program description. While the NRC acceptance represents a regulatory step forward for the company, the agency’s correspondence does not constitute authorization to build or operate a reactor, nor does it reflect NRC approval or review of the Hadron Micro-Modular Reactor design itself.

"The NRC staff’s acceptance of our Quality Assurance Program Description is a critical milestone for Hadron Energy and the development of our Micro-Modular Reactor," said Sam Gibson, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hadron Energy.

The accepted program is based on Appendix B to 10 CFR Part 50 and commits Hadron to recognized nuclear industry quality standards, including ASME NQA-1-2022. With the program now accepted, Hadron may cite the document in subsequent licensing applications submitted under 10 CFR Part 52, such as a Combined License or a Manufacturing License. This may allow the company to avoid repetitive NRC review of material that has already been accepted by the agency.

Hadron Energy has said it will publish the accepted version of the Quality Assurance Program Description within three months. The published document will incorporate the NRC’s correspondence and the final safety evaluation issued by agency staff.

Context for markets and industry: The NRC acceptance functions as a regulatory milestone rather than a construction or operational permit. It clarifies that Hadron has an NRC-acceptable quality assurance framework it can reference in Part 52 licensing paths, while leaving further design and licensing reviews to future proceedings.

Risks

  • The NRC acceptance is not a license to construct or operate a reactor; separate licensing and design reviews remain necessary - this affects capital-intensive nuclear development and regulatory timelines.
  • The acceptance does not represent NRC review or approval of the Hadron Micro-Modular Reactor design itself, leaving technical design approval and related market or investment implications unresolved.
  • Future licensing applications may still be subject to further NRC review and correspondence, so citing the accepted program does not guarantee expedited approvals for Combined or Manufacturing Licenses.
