Taiwan market closes higher as benchmark index hits a record; materials sectors lead gains

Taiwan's benchmark index ended the trading day higher, gaining 1.61% to reach a new all-time high. Strength in materials-related sectors powered the advance, with Taiwan Glass Ind Corp, Enlight Corp and CviLux Corp among the session's top performers. Several other listed names posted double-digit percentage declines. Commodity and currency markets showed modest movement alongside the equity gains.

Taiwan equities finished the session stronger on Tuesday, with sector-level strength in Glass, Plastic and Cement & Glass driving an advance in the main market. The Taiwan Weighted rose 1.61% to close at a new all-time high.

At the close, Taiwan Glass Ind Corp (TW:1802) was the session's biggest gainer, jumping 9.93% or 4.25 points to finish at 47.05. Enlight Corp (TW:2438) climbed 9.88% or 2.05 points to end the day at 22.80. CviLux Corp (TW:8103) also posted a strong performance, rising 9.83% or 9.80 points to close at 109.50 in late trade.

On the downside, Solytech Enterprise Corp (TW:1471) dropped 10.00% or 1.20 points to finish at 10.80. Bestec Power Electronics Co Ltd (TW:3308) declined 9.73% or 2.30 points to end at 21.35, while PCL Technologies Inc (TW:4977) fell 9.71% or 13.50 points to close at 125.50.

The market breadth figure reported for the Taiwan Stock Exchange noted that falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 0 to 0.

Shares in CviLux Corp (TW:8103) additionally reached an all-time high in the session, increasing 9.83% or 9.80 to 109.50.


Commodities and currencies showed modest movement alongside the stock market gains. Crude oil for April delivery was up 0.81% or 0.54 to $66.85 a barrel. Brent oil for delivery in May gained 0.75% or 0.53 to $71.64 a barrel. The April Gold Futures contract moved lower, falling 0.43% or 22.70 to trade at 5,202.90 a troy ounce.

In currency markets, USD/TWD was unchanged at 31.45, showing 0.00% change, while TWD/CNY was unchanged at 0.22, a 0.14% change. The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 97.75.
