Energy and commodity benchmarks moved lower across global markets during the session. Brent oil for November delivery declined 0.63% to $87.96 a barrel. US crude for October delivery fell 0.56% to $83.06 a barrel. In metals, the December gold futures contract dropped 2.15%, trading at $4,563.84 a troy ounce by the close.

Foreign exchange and dollar indicators showed the euro weakening against the dollar and largely flat against sterling. EUR/USD fell 0.51% to 1.16, while EUR/GBP was essentially unchanged at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.47% to 99.55.
