Stocks in Sweden finished modestly lower on Monday, weighed by sectoral declines in Healthcare, Financials and Oil & Gas that nudged the benchmark modestly into negative territory.
At the market close in Stockholm, the OMX Stockholm 30 was down 0.05%.
Among constituents of the OMX Stockholm 30, the session's strongest performers were Essity AB B (ST:ESSITYb), which climbed 2.82% to finish at 281.20; AB SKF B (ST:SKFb), which added 2.17% to close at 268.20; and Sandvik AB (ST:SAND), which rose 1.65% to end the day at 387.10.
On the downside, ABB Ltd (ST:ABB) led losses among the index's names, falling 2.28% to 924.60 at the close. SAAB AB ser. B (ST:SAABb) dropped 1.98% to 642.20, while Svenska Handelsbanken AB A (ST:SHBa) slipped 1.63% to 144.55.
Market breadth in Stockholm favored falling shares: 415 stocks declined versus 311 that advanced, while 67 issues finished unchanged.
Notably, AB SKF B (ST:SKFb) reached an all-time high in the session, gaining 2.17% to close at 268.20.
Commodity and currency markets provided a mixed backdrop to local equity trading. Crude oil for October delivery moved lower, down 2.60% or 2.26 to $84.80 a barrel. Brent oil for November delivery fell 2.18% or 2.02 to $90.65 a barrel. In precious metals, the December Gold Futures contract gained 0.57% or 26.45 to trade at $4,707.05 a troy ounce.
In foreign exchange trading, EUR/SEK was up 0.20% at 11.08 and USD/SEK rose 0.40% to 9.50. The US Dollar Index Futures was higher by 0.20% at 98.93.
Taken together, the day delivered a narrow overall decline for the Swedish market with differentiated performance across sectors and a commodity picture that included notable declines in both Brent and WTI crude while gold ticked higher. The session highlighted a mix of strength in select industrial and consumer names and pressure across parts of the healthcare, financial and energy complex.
