Italian shares finished lower at the close on Monday as selling pressure in Industrials, Technology and Oil & Gas stocks pushed the market down.
At the Milan close, the Investing.com Italy 40 index registered a decline of 0.28%.
Not all names moved in the same direction. The session's top performers on the Italy 40 included Nexi SpA (BIT:NEXII), which jumped 4.61% - a rise of 0.19 points - to finish at 4.40. Moncler SpA (BIT:MONC) also posted gains, adding 2.44% or 1.15 points to close at 48.25. Davide Campari Milano SpA (BIT:CPRI) was up 1.32%, an increase of 0.08 points, to end the day at 5.97.
On the downside, several large-cap names weighed on the index. Prysmian SpA (BIT:PRY) led decliners, sliding 5.16% or 6.40 points to close at 117.60. Stellantis NV (BIT:STLAM) fell 4.77%, a drop of 0.22 points, to 4.43, while Avio SpA (BIT:AVI) declined 4.73% or 1.52 points to finish at 30.62.
Market breadth in Milan skewed toward losers. Falling issues outnumbered advancers by 381 to 351, and 55 stocks finished unchanged.
Commodity and currency moves accompanied the equity weakness. Crude oil for October delivery lost 2.64%, down $2.30, to settle at $84.76 a barrel. Brent crude for November delivery declined 2.27% or $2.10 to $90.57 a barrel.
In precious metals, the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.77%, an increase of $35.81, trading at $4,716.41 a troy ounce.
On the currency front, EUR/USD registered a move described as unchanged at 0.09% to 1.17, while EUR/GBP was effectively unchanged at 0.01% to 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures was stronger, up 0.18% at 98.91.
The trading session closed with a modest negative tone for the Italian market amid weakness in key cyclical and energy-related sectors, alongside modest strength in gold and the US dollar.
