Mexico's main equity index closed higher on Friday, with the S&P/BMV IPC rising 0.18% at the session's end. Gains were concentrated in Industrials, Consumer Goods & Services and Consumer Staples names, which collectively supported the uptick in the benchmark.
Top and bottom movers
The session's strongest performing stock on the S&P/BMV IPC was Regional SAB de CV (BMV:RA), which climbed 3.37% - a rise of 4.30 points - to finish at 131.71. Genomma Lab Internacional SAB De CV (BMV:LABB) also posted a solid advance, adding 2.92% or 0.41 points to close at 14.47. Banco Del Bajio SA Institution De Banca Multiple (BMV:BBAJIOO) recorded a 2.72% gain, up 1.54 points to end the day at 58.21.
On the downside, GCC SAB de CV (BMV:GCC) led decliners with a 2.28% drop, down 4.75 points to a closing price of 203.32. Cemex SAB de CV (BMV:CEMEXCPO) fell 1.49%, slipping 0.32 points to 21.18 at the close. Grupo Bimbo, S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV:BIMBOA) decreased 1.25%, losing 0.74 points to finish at 58.26.
Market breadth and context
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners on the Mexico Stock Exchange, with 113 stocks higher, 93 lower and 11 unchanged at the close. The modest breadth advantage accompanied the index's 0.18% gain.
Commodities and currency moves
In commodities trade, Gold Futures for August delivery ticked higher by 0.14% or 5.50 to $4,055.70 a troy ounce. Crude oil for September delivery fell 1.30%, a decline of 1.13, to settle at $85.88 a barrel. The September Brent contract retreated 2.33% or 2.35 to trade at $98.34 a barrel.
On the foreign exchange front, the Mexican peso strengthened modestly versus the U.S. dollar, with USD/MXN down 0.10% to 17.48. The euro declined against the peso as well, with EUR/MXN falling 0.15% to 19.88. Separately, US Dollar Index Futures were reported up 0.01% at 101.30.
