JSW Steel Ltd (NSE:JSTL) strengthened 1.72%, rising 22.30 points to settle at 1,316.00, while Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd (NSE:REDY) added 1.38% or 16.20 points to close at 1,190.90.

At the other end of the Nifty roster, SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NSE:SBIL) led declines, falling 1.62% or 29.00 points to end the day at 1,763.90. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NSE:BJFN) eased 1.47% or 16.10 points to 1,078.90 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NSE:BJFS) was down 1.40% or 28.50 points to close at 2,004.00.

Turning to the BSE Sensex 30 constituents, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) posted a 1.86% gain to 186.00, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) rose 1.30% to settle at 1,017.20 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) gained 1.30% to finish at 1,321.00. The laggards on the Sensex included Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE), which declined 1.30% to 1,675.00 late in the session. Bajaj Finance (BO:BJFN) and Bajaj Finserv (BO:BJFS) were also among the weaker names on the BSE, falling 1.26% to 1,079.40 and 1.22% to 2,004.00 respectively at the close.

Market breadth favored sellers. On the National Stock Exchange, falling stocks outnumbered advancers by 1,381 to 1,239, with 44 issues unchanged. The Bombay Stock Exchange recorded 2,239 decliners against 1,916 advancers and 207 unchanged listings.

Volatility, as measured by the India VIX - the implied volatility gauge for Nifty 50 options - rose 2.72% to 11.50, indicating a modest uptick in option-implied uncertainty heading into the next session.

Commodities were mixed. Gold futures for December delivery were higher by 0.42% or $19.87, trading at $4,700.47 a troy ounce. Energy contracts declined: October crude oil futures fell 2.38% or $2.07 to $84.99 a barrel, while the November Brent contract dropped 1.89% or $1.75 to $90.92 a barrel.

In FX markets, USD/INR moved up 0.08% to 95.77, while EUR/INR was slightly lower, down 0.03% to 111.70. The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17%, trading at 98.90 at the time referenced.

The session's price action reflected modest, broad-based weakness rather than concentrated shocks. Exchanges recorded more decliners than advancers and volatility ticked higher, while commodities and currency moves provided additional market context ahead of future sessions.
