Aehr Test Systems (NASDAQ:AEHR) shares rose sharply following the announcement that the company secured a follow-on production order for a fully automated FOX-XP wafer-level burn-in system from a major silicon photonics customer.
The system ordered is configured to test nine wafers simultaneously and incorporates a fully integrated WaferPak Auto Aligner along with a complete set of FOX WaferPak Contactors. Aehr said the unit is scheduled for delivery within the next six months.
The purchasing company is described by Aehr as a global leader in networking products and solutions and a significant supplier to the data center optical transceiver market. That customer is developing advanced silicon photonics-based transceivers intended for data center networking and optical I/O applications to meet demand for high-speed fiber optic communication links in hyperscale AI and cloud data centers.
Beyond the single order, Aehr said the customer provided a forecast for additional FOX-XP systems during the current calendar year as it expands capacity to support next-generation hyperscale data center deployments.
Gayn Erickson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aehr Test Systems, characterized the order as a reflection of the fast-moving production ramp tied to the large-scale buildout of hyperscale AI and cloud data centers, stating that it "reflects the urgency of the production ramp now underway to support the massive buildout of hyperscale AI and cloud data centers."
Aehr reported that its initial engagement with this customer began seven months ago with the explicit goal of moving rapidly into volume production within six months. By May, Aehr had delivered a full production system plus two engineering systems to that customer. The company also noted that its FOX wafer-level systems have now been deployed to more than 25 customers.
Aehr Test Systems provides test and burn-in solutions for semiconductor devices used across applications including artificial intelligence, silicon photonics, data center, automotive, and industrial markets.
Context and implications
The order underscores ongoing demand from hyperscale data center operators and suppliers for wafer-level test equipment tailored to silicon photonics devices. For Aehr, follow-on production orders and customer forecasts for additional systems indicate further potential revenue opportunities tied to capacity ramps at key transceiver suppliers.
