Israeli Strikes Kill Three in Gaza, Highlighting Fragile Ceasefire

Israeli strikes on Sunday killed at least three Palestinians in Gaza, including two members of the Hamas-run police, according to health officials and Gaza’s interior ministry. The incidents underscore the tenuous nature of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire that has been punctured by almost daily attacks since it took effect, resulting in hundreds of deaths and ongoing mutual accusations of violations.

Key Points

  • Three Palestinians killed in Gaza on Sunday, including two members of Hamas-run police.
  • One death reported in Maghazi refugee camp; two deaths in Khan Younis including Wessam Abdel-Hadi and his aide.
  • Ceasefire from October 2025 has been fragile with almost daily attacks; medics report at least 850 Palestinians killed since it took effect. Sectors potentially impacted include defense and regional logistics, given ongoing military operations and security concerns.

CAIRO, May 10 - Israeli air strikes on Sunday killed at least three Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, local health authorities and Gaza’s Hamas-run interior ministry said, in incidents that underscore the fragility of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.

Medics reported that one person died in an air strike in the Maghazi refugee camp. Separately, Gaza’s Hamas-run interior ministry said an attack in Khan Younis killed Wessam Abdel-Hadi, who it identified as the head of the criminal police force, along with his aide.

Reuters has previously reported that Israel has stepped up operations against Gaza’s Hamas-run police force, which militants have used to re-establish governance in areas under their control. The Israeli military did not immediately provide a comment on either of the incidents reported on Sunday.

Violence in Gaza has continued despite a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025, with Israel carrying out almost daily attacks, according to local medics cited by authorities. Since that ceasefire began, medics say at least 850 Palestinians have been killed. Israel, for its part, says militants have killed four of its soldiers over the same period.

Both Israel and Hamas have accused the other side of violating the truce. Gaza health authorities also report that more than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since the Gaza war began in October 2023, and say the majority of those killed have been civilians.

Summary

At least three Palestinians were killed on Sunday in Gaza by Israeli strikes, including two members of the Hamas-run police force. One death occurred in Maghazi refugee camp and two in Khan Younis, where the head of the criminal police and his aide were killed, according to medics and Gaza’s interior ministry. These events occurred against the backdrop of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire that medics say has not halted almost daily attacks, and that has been marked by mutual accusations of violations and significant casualties since October 2025 and since the wider Gaza war began in October 2023.

Contextual details

  • Medics reported one person killed in Maghazi refugee camp.
  • Gaza’s Hamas-run interior ministry said Wessam Abdel-Hadi, head of the criminal police force, and his aide were killed in Khan Younis.
  • The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the reported strikes.
  • Local medics say at least 850 Palestinians have been killed since the October 2025 ceasefire took effect.
  • Israel says militants have killed four of its soldiers over the same period.
  • Gaza health authorities report more than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since the Gaza war started in October 2023, most of them civilians.

Risks

  • The ceasefire remains fragile with continued near-daily strikes, creating risk of renewed large-scale hostilities that could affect regional stability - this impacts defense and security sectors.
  • Mutual accusations of ceasefire violations increase uncertainty about the durability of the truce and the prospects for reduced civilian casualties - this creates risks for humanitarian operations and aid delivery in the region.
  • High casualty figures reported since October 2023 and since the 2025 ceasefire contribute to an environment of heightened tension and unpredictability, which may affect investor sentiment in sectors tied to regional supply chains and defense procurement.
