The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will host a national autonomous vehicle safety forum on Tuesday that will bring together senior leaders from prominent self-driving firms, including the chief executives of Waymo, Zoox and Aurora.
The session is scheduled as the Trump administration seeks pathways to accelerate the deployment of robotaxis while also maintaining scrutiny of safety matters tied to automated driving technologies. NHTSA has said it is considering a range of potential steps, among them "future guidance on the safe domestic development, testing, and deployment" of self-driving vehicles.
Executives confirmed to participate in the forum include Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Alphabet unit Waymo; Aicha Evans, chief executive of Amazon-owned Zoox; and Chris Urmson, chief executive of Aurora. The invited leaders are expected to take part in discussions over the course of the day-long event.
