Turkish Shares Finish Higher as BIST 100 Closes Up 1.05%

Turkey's main stock index, the BIST 100, closed up 1.05% on Thursday as advances in Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Leasing & Factoring and Technology sectors pushed more stocks higher than lower. Several individual issues recorded double-digit percentage moves in both directions. Commodities and currency pairs also showed notable moves during the session.

TOKYO, ISTANBUL - Turkey's equity market ended Thursday with the BIST 100 up 1.05% at the close in Istanbul, led by strength in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Leasing & Factoring and Technology segments.

Leading the session's winners was Katilimevim Tasarruf Finansman AS (IS:KTLEV), which climbed 10.00% - a gain of 4.32 points - to finish at 47.52. The session's other top performers included Qua Granite Hayal Yapi ve Urunleri Sanayi Ticaret AS (IS:QUAGR), which rose 9.97% or 0.29 points to close at 3.20, and Europower Enerji ve Otomasyon Teknolojileri Sanayi Ticaret AS (IS:EUPWR), which advanced 9.97% or 3.22 points to end the day at 35.52.

On the downside, Kiler Holding AS (IS:KLRHO) posted the steepest loss, falling 9.99% - a decline of 22.60 points - to close at 203.60. Grocery retailer Migros Ticaret AS (IS:MGROS) declined 3.14% or 19.50 points to finish at 601.50, while BIM Birlesik Magazalar AS (IS:BIMAS) slipped 2.20% or 14.50 points to 645.00 at the close.

Market breadth favored advancers: 494 stocks gained, 110 declined and 11 were unchanged on the Istanbul Stock Exchange.

Notably, shares of Katilimevim Tasarruf Finansman AS (IS:KTLEV) moved to all-time highs during the session, gaining 10.00% or 4.32 to reach 47.52.

Commodity markets saw mixed action. Gold futures for April delivery fell 0.65% - down $33.30 - to $5,101.40 a troy ounce. In energy markets, crude oil for April delivery jumped 5.77% or $4.31 to $78.97 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract was up 4.08% or $3.32 to trade at $84.72 a barrel.

Currency moves included USD/TRY rising 0.11% to 44.00, and EUR/TRY easing 0.20% to 51.08. The US Dollar Index Futures was higher by 0.49% at 99.21.
