Taiwan equities finished higher on Friday, with the Plastic, Chemical and Semiconductor sectors driving the market advance. At the close, the Taiwan Weighted was up 1.94%.
The session's top performers on the Taiwan Weighted were Tex-Ray Industrial Co Ltd (TW:1467), which advanced 10.00% or 0.73 points to finish at 8.03; Advanced Power Electronics Corp (TW:8261), which gained 9.98% or 27.00 points to close at 297.50; and Para Light Electronics Co Ltd (TW:6226), which rose 9.98% or 2.20 points to end at 24.25.
On the downside, Yeong Guan Energy Technology Group Co Ltd (TW:1589) fell 9.92% or 0.61 points to close at 5.54, Coxon Precise Industrial Co Ltd (TW:3607) declined 9.23% or 1.55 points to finish at 15.25, and ASRock Inc (TW:3515) dropped 8.76% or 20.50 points to end at 213.50.
The report included a market-internal note stating: "Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 0 to 0."
Several individual stock milestones were recorded during the session. Shares of Yeong Guan Energy Technology Group Co Ltd (TW:1589) moved to all-time lows, falling 9.92% or 0.61 to 5.54 at the close. Advanced Power Electronics Corp (TW:8261) climbed to all-time highs, rising 9.98% or 27.00 to 297.50. Para Light Electronics Co Ltd (TW:6226) reached five-year highs, increasing 9.98% or 2.20 to 24.25.
Commodity markets showed gains alongside the Taipei close. Crude oil for August delivery rose 0.71% or 0.49 to $69.18 a barrel. Brent crude for September delivery increased 0.85% or 0.61 to $72.41 a barrel. The August gold futures contract was up 1.27% or 52.27, trading at $4,177.97 a troy ounce.
Currency and index movements accompanying the session included USD/TWD, which was up 0.18% to 31.96, and TWD/CNY, noted as unchanged 0.24% to 0.21. The US Dollar Index Futures was reported down 0.11% at 100.51.
Market participants should note the day featured both pronounced winners and significant losers, with individual security moves standing out against a broadly higher benchmark. The advance in cyclical commodity prices and the modest dip in the dollar were recorded in parallel with the Taipei market's gains.
