Taiwan's stock market finished the trading day in positive territory on Friday, with the Taiwan Weighted index up 1.61% at the close. Sector strength in Computers & Peripherals, Machinery and Optoelectronic names provided the primary lift to the market.

Among the session's top performers, Tyntek Corp (TW:2426) advanced 10.00%, gaining 9.50 points to finish at 104.50. Ta Liang Technology Co Ltd (TW:3167) also rose 10.00%, adding 73.00 points to close at 803.00, while Yageo Corp (TW:2327) gained 9.98%, or 51.00 points, to end the day at 562.00.

On the other side of the ledger, some names slipped notably. Fortune Oriental Co Ltd (TW:2491) declined 6.67%, falling 3.00 points to 42.00 at the close. Eastech Holding Limited (TW:5225) was down 5.90% or 3.60 points to finish at 57.40, and Gold Circuit Electronics Ltd (TW:2368) dropped 5.00%, losing 55.00 points to close at 1,045.00.

Advancers outnumbered decliners on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by a wide margin: 778 stocks rose while 225 fell, and 116 issues finished unchanged.

Notably, shares of Eastech Holding Limited (TW:5225) traded near 52-week lows, closing at 57.40 after the 5.90% decline.

Commodities and currency moves were mixed during the session. Crude oil futures for October delivery rose 0.13% to $91.42 a barrel, while Brent for November slipped 0.05% to $95.47 a barrel. December gold futures fell 0.48%, trading at $4,518.20 a troy ounce.

Currency crosses showed a slight move in the US dollar versus the Taiwan dollar, with USD/TWD down 0.10% to 31.70. The TWD/CNY rate was largely unchanged, moving 0.14% to 0.21.

Across futures and indices, the US Dollar Index Futures was higher by about 0.12% at 99.00. The Taiwan market index action, individual stock swings and the modest moves in commodity prices reflect a market session dominated by sector-specific strength rather than uniform momentum across all asset classes.

Risks

  • Several individual stocks recorded sharp declines during the session, highlighting single-name volatility that may affect holders of those equities and supply-chain related sectors - particularly industrial suppliers and electronics contractors.
  • Eastech Holding (5225) hit 52-week lows, indicating potential downside pressure for that company and signaling stress for related small-cap suppliers in the machinery and electronics ecosystem.
  • Mixed commodity price moves, including a modest rise in NYMEX crude and a fall in Brent and gold futures, introduce near-term uncertainty for energy- and commodity-sensitive sectors.
