Shares on the Paris market finished the session in negative territory on Friday, driven primarily by declines across the Consumer Goods, Industrials and Basic Materials sectors. At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 index fell 0.91% to reach a new 3-months low, while the broader SBF 120 also slipped 0.91%.
On the CAC 40, a small group of stocks posted gains. TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTEF) led the winners, climbing 2.74% or 1.93 points to close at 72.33. Danone SA (EPA:DANO) added 2.39% or 1.68 points to finish at 71.92, and Orange SA (EPA:ORAN) rose 2.01% or 0.35 points to end the day at 17.52.
Decliners were more numerous and included several heavyweights. Among the biggest falls on the CAC 40 were Stellantis NV (EPA:STLAM), down 4.39% or 0.26 points to trade at 5.71 at the close, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE (EPA:LVMH), which lost 4.30% or 21.30 points to end at 473.70, and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), off 4.28% or 2.00 points to 44.73.
The SBF 120 saw similar patterns. Top performers on that gauge included JC Decaux SA (EPA:JCDX), up 3.53% to 19.63; TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTEF), which also rose 2.74% to settle at 72.33; and Eurazeo (EPA:EURA), which gained 2.41% to close at 41.66.
On the downside within the SBF 120, ID Logistics SAS (EPA:IDLA) fell 7.44% to 329.50 in late trade, Eramet SA (EPA:ERMT) lost 4.85% to settle at 51.05, and Worldline SA (EPA:WLN) dropped 4.49% to 0.37 at the close.
Market breadth on the Paris exchange favored sellers: falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 318 to 162, while 82 issues finished unchanged.
Several individual stock landmarks were recorded during the session. Shares of TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTEF) rose to all-time highs, advancing 2.74% or 1.93 to 72.33. Stellantis NV (EPA:STLAM) declined to a five-year low after losing 4.39% or 0.26 to trade at 5.71. JC Decaux SA (EPA:JCDX) climbed to 52-week highs, up 3.53% or 0.67 to 19.63. Meanwhile, Worldline SA (EPA:WLN) moved to all-time lows, down 4.49% or 0.02 to 0.37.
Volatility indicators reflected increased option-side uncertainty for the French benchmark. The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged at 0.00% to 18.96, registering a new 52-week high.
Commodities and currencies showed mixed moves. Gold Futures for April delivery fell 1.49% or 76.34 to $5,049.46 a troy ounce. In energy markets, crude oil for April delivery rose 1.16% or 1.11 to $96.84 a barrel, while the May Brent contract increased 0.88% or 0.88 to trade at $101.34 a barrel.
In foreign exchange trading, the euro weakened versus the dollar: EUR/USD was down 0.63% to 1.14. EUR/GBP was essentially flat, unchanged at 0.14% to 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures gained 0.60% to trade at 100.36.
