Paris Stocks End Higher as Tech, Consumer Services and Industrials Lead Gains

CAC 40 rises 0.77% while SBF 120 advances; STMicroelectronics posts double-digit jump as some large caps slide

French equities closed higher on Tuesday, with the CAC 40 up 0.77% and the SBF 120 climbing 0.53%. Strength in Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials powered the advance, led by large gains in STMicroelectronics and solid performances from Danone and Schneider Electric. At the same time, several blue chips including Capgemini, Dassault Systemes and Euronext registered notable declines. Market breadth favored decliners, and volatility as measured by the CAC 40 VIX reached a new 52-week high.

Paris equities finished the session higher on Tuesday, driven by gains across Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials. At the close, the benchmark CAC 40 index rose 0.77% while the broader SBF 120 gained 0.53%.

The session's largest gainer on the CAC 40 was STMicroelectronics NV (EPA:STMPA), which surged 15.14% - an 8.98 point rise - to end trading at 68.28. Danone SA (EPA:DANO) and Schneider Electric SE (EPA:SCHN) also posted strong advances, with Danone up 4.37% or 2.68 points to 64.04 and Schneider Electric higher by 3.96% or 10.95 points to close at 287.15.

On the downside, Capgemini SE (EPA:CAPP) led decliners on the CAC 40, falling 4.64% or 4.90 points to finish at 100.80. Dassault Systemes SE (EPA:DAST) slipped 4.10% or 0.83 points to 19.43, while Euronext (EPA:ENX) declined 3.00% or 4.20 points to close at 135.70.

Looking across the SBF 120, the top performers included X Fab Silicon Foundries EV (EPA:XFAB), which climbed 20.58% to 11.63, STMicroelectronics NV (EPA:STMPA) with its 15.14% gain to 68.28, and Valeo SA (EPA:VLOF), which added 6.60% to end at 14.06. The laggards on the SBF 120 were Eutelsat Communications SA (EPA:ETL), down 8.00% to 3.50, Euroapi SAS (EPA:EAPI), which lost 4.67% to 1.31, and Capgemini SE (EPA:CAPP) at 100.80.

Market breadth on the Paris exchange tilted toward decliners: 300 stocks fell versus 205 that advanced, and 64 were unchanged.

Several individual stock milestones were reported. Shares of STMicroelectronics NV reached five-year highs after the session's strong showing, while Schneider Electric shares moved to all-time highs. Valeo was reported to have hit 52-week highs.

Volatility as measured by the CAC 40 VIX was unchanged on the day at 18.96, which the market recorded as a new 52-week high for the index.

Commodities trading showed mixed moves. Gold futures for August delivery rose 0.52% or 23.35 to 4,529.65 a troy ounce. In energy markets, crude oil for July delivery gained 0.75% or 0.69 to 92.85 a barrel, while the August Brent contract increased 0.48% or 0.46 to 95.44 a barrel.

Foreign exchange markets were relatively flat. EUR/USD was essentially unchanged at 1.16, moving 0.05%, and EUR/GBP was stable at 0.86 with a 0.01% change. The US Dollar Index Futures ticked down 0.03% to 99.12.
