Intuitive Machines has been chosen by the U.S. Space Force for the Andromeda IDIQ contract, giving the company the opportunity to compete to build Space Domain Awareness systems that detect, track and characterize objects in geosynchronous orbit. The award, announced on the company’s social channel, is the first major selection following its acquisition of Lanteris Space and covers mission solutions through 2030 and beyond.

Key Points

  • Intuitive Machines was selected for the U.S. Space Force Andromeda IDIQ, enabling the company to compete for Space Domain Awareness task orders.
  • The contract focuses on systems to detect, track and characterize objects in geosynchronous orbit and covers mission solutions through 2030 and beyond.
  • This selection is the company’s first major award since acquiring Lanteris Space and the company intends to leverage combined capabilities and commercial-based processes.

Intuitive Machines (NASDAQ:LUNR) said Monday it was selected by the U.S. Space Force for the Andromeda IDIQ contract, a vehicle aimed at advancing space surveillance capabilities. Under the contract, the company will be eligible to compete to design, develop and field Space Domain Awareness systems intended to detect, track and characterize objects located in geosynchronous orbit.

The Andromeda contract is structured to supply Space Domain Awareness mission solutions for the U.S. Space Force through 2030 and beyond. The selection announced by the company represents its first significant contract award since completing its acquisition of Lanteris Space, according to the company’s statement posted on X on Monday.

Intuitive Machines said it will apply combined capabilities from both organizations to create next-generation surveillance technology tailored for the geosynchronous belt. The company emphasized that it plans to use commercial-based processes to deliver high-performance systems under the contract.

As an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity - IDIQ - vehicle, the Andromeda contract allows multiple contractors to be awarded onto the contract and then compete for individual task orders. Intuitive Machines’ selection places it among the contractors who can now vie for task orders to field operational Space Domain Awareness capabilities for the U.S. Space Force.

The company disclosed the award details via a statement posted to X on Monday. The announcement underscores an expansion of Intuitive Machines’ potential addressable market in defense-related space surveillance activities following its strategic acquisition. Specific task orders, timelines, and technical scopes for any future awards under Andromeda were not included in the company’s announcement.

Contextual note: The information in this article is based on the company’s disclosure and the parameters of the Andromeda IDIQ as reported by the company; no additional contract details were provided in the announcement.

Risks

  • The Andromeda IDIQ structure means Intuitive Machines must compete for individual task orders; selection for the contract does not guarantee future awards, creating uncertainty for revenue realization.
  • The company did not disclose specific task orders, timelines, or technical scopes in its announcement, leaving the scale and timing of potential work under the contract unclear.
  • Multiple contractors can receive awards under the IDIQ, which could limit Intuitive Machines’ share of task orders and affect expected program economics.
