Finnish equities finished the trading day higher on Monday, with the OMX Helsinki 25 index ending the session up 1.37% following widespread advances in Telecoms, Financials and Technology names.
Leading the index were Elisa Oyj (HE:ELISA), Nokia Oyj (HE:NOKIA) and SSAB AB B (HE:SSABBH). Elisa recorded the largest gain, rising 5.11% or 1.90 points to close at 39.06. Nokia added 2.95% or 0.16 points to finish at 5.58, while SSAB AB B increased 2.70% or 0.19 points to end the day at 7.15.
On the downside, several constituents saw declines. Nokian Renkaat Oyj (HE:TYRES) was the weakest performer on the index, slipping 1.39% or 0.15 points to close at 10.68. Neste Oyj (HE:NESTE) retreated 0.93% or 0.20 points to finish at 21.36, and Outokumpu Oyj (HE:OUT1V) fell 0.84% or 0.04 points to trade at 4.72 at the close.
Market breadth on the Helsinki Stock Exchange favored advancers, with 94 stocks rising compared with 76 that fell. Meanwhile, 20 names ended the session unchanged.
Commodity markets showed notable weakness during the session. Brent oil for April delivery dropped 4.59% or 3.18, settling at $66.14 a barrel. U.S. crude for March delivery declined 4.97% or 3.24 to $61.97 a barrel. Precious metals also moved lower, with the April Gold Futures contract down 1.30% or 61.66 to trade at $4,683.44 a troy ounce.
In currency markets, EUR/USD was effectively unchanged, quoted at 1.18, while EUR/GBP was also little changed at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures advanced 0.56% to 97.40.
