Germany's equity market closed mixed on Monday. The DAX fell 0.41% at the Frankfurt close while the MDAX inched up 0.02% and the TecDAX eased 0.15%. Gains in telecom, food & beverages and utilities names were offset by losses in construction, software and media stocks. Market breadth was slightly negative with more decliners than advancers.

Germany's stock market produced a mixed reading at Monday's close, with the benchmark DAX reversing into the red even as other domestic indices held steady or posted small gains.


At the close in Frankfurt the DAX finished down 0.41%. The MDAX managed a marginal gain of 0.02% while the TecDAX retreated 0.15%.

Sector moves were uneven. Telecoms, Food & Beverages and Utilities were among the stronger groups, helping several names finish higher. By contrast, the Construction, Software and Media sectors weighed on the broader market, pushing a number of stocks lower into the close.


Top performers on the DAX

  • Zalando SE (ZALG) led gains on the DAX, rising 3.07% or 0.63 points to close at 21.14.
  • Airbus Group SE (AIRG) added 2.45% or 4.72 points to finish at 197.12.
  • Deutsche Telekom AG (DTEGn) advanced 2.30% or 0.74 points to end the day at 32.97.

Lagging DAX names

  • Siemens AG Class N (SIEGn) was the heaviest decliner, down 6.41% or 16.10 points to 234.95 at the close.
  • Brenntag AG (BNRGn) slipped 2.13% or 1.24 points to 56.98.
  • SAP SE (SAPG) fell 1.96% or 3.36 points to finish at 168.36.

MDAX movers

  • TKMS GmbH (TKMS) jumped 5.95% to close at 98.80.
  • Hochtief AG (HOTG) rose 5.56% to settle at 391.00; shares in Hochtief reached an all-time high on the move.
  • Nordex SE O.N. (NDXG) gained 4.63% to finish at 33.88.

Weakest on the MDAX

  • flatexDEGIRO AG (FTKn) fell 6.87% to 32.82.
  • TeamViewer AG (TMV) lost 5.61% to close at 4.95; the stock fell to an all-time low in the session.
  • Lanxess AG (LXSG) declined 4.23% to end at 20.38.

TecDAX movers

  • Nordex SE O.N. (NDXG) was also among the TecDAX leaders, up 4.63% to 33.88.
  • United Internet AG (UTDI) climbed 2.55% to settle at 26.52.
  • Deutsche Telekom AG (DTEGn) gained 2.30% to close at 32.97.

TecDAX laggards

  • TeamViewer AG (TMV) was the largest decliner on the TecDAX, down 5.61% to 4.95.
  • Nemetschek AG O.N. (NEKG) dropped 4.18% to 64.20; the share price moved to a 52-week low in the session.
  • Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (AFXG) lost 3.65% to end at 25.84.

On the Frankfurt Stock Exchange more stocks fell than rose, with 314 decliners against 291 advancers and 43 stocks finishing unchanged.

Notable price milestones recorded during the session included Hochtief reaching an all-time high on a 5.56% rise, while TeamViewer recorded an all-time low after a 5.61% drop. Nemetschek moved to a 52-week low following its 4.18% decline.


Volatility and commodities:

  • The DAX volatility index, which tracks the implied volatility of DAX options, decreased 2.31% to 19.16.
  • Gold futures for April delivery fell 0.65% or 32.91 to 5,013.39 a troy ounce.
  • Crude oil for April delivery rose 1.07% or 0.67 to 63.42 a barrel.
  • The April Brent oil contract increased 1.00% or 0.68 to 68.43 a barrel.

Foreign exchange and dollar index moves:

  • EUR/USD was effectively unchanged, moving 0.14% to 1.19.
  • EUR/GBP was unchanged, shifting 0.02% to 0.87.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.17% to 96.98.
