Greece's stock market finished the session modestly higher on Thursday as sector strength in Banking, Construction and Travel helped push the Athens General Composite up 0.19% at the close.
Leading individual performers on the Athens General Composite were Motor Oil Hellas Corinth Refineries SA (AT:MORr), which rose 4.11% - a gain of 1.76 points to close at 44.60. Profile Syst (AT:PRFr) added 3.94%, increasing 0.33 points to finish at 8.70, while Athens Water (AT:EYDr) advanced 3.81%, up 0.46 points to 12.54.
On the downside, Gek Terna (AT:HRMr) was the weakest among major names, sliding 2.44% or 1.12 points to end at 44.80. Elvalhalcor Hellenic Copper and Aluminium Industry SA (AT:ELHA) dipped 2.42%, down 0.12 points to 4.84, and Allwyn AG (AT:ALWr) fell 2.34%, losing 0.32 points to close at 13.35.
Market breadth on the Athens Stock Exchange was narrowly tilted toward declines, with 60 stocks lower against 56 advancers and 16 unchanged at the session's end.
Certain equities reached notable price milestones during the session. Shares of Motor Oil Hellas Corinth Refineries SA climbed to an all-time high, finishing at 44.60 after a 4.11% uptick. Profile Syst also reached an all-time high, closing at 8.70 following its 3.94% increase. Athens Water ended the day at a five-year high, trading at 12.54 after its 3.81% rise.
Commodities showed mixed performance. Gold futures for August delivery were up 1.14%, gaining 46.67 to trade at $4,129.07 a troy ounce. In contrast, energy contracts moved lower: crude oil for August delivery fell 0.68% or $0.50 to $73.02 a barrel, and the September Brent contract slipped 0.50% or $0.39 to $77.63 a barrel.
Currency and index moves were modest. The Euro was largely steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD unchanged at 1.14 and EUR/GBP unchanged at 0.85. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 100.72. A small decline was also recorded in the Dollar Index at -0.05% during the reported period.
Overall, the session delivered modest gains for the main Athens benchmark amid mixed breadth and varied commodity prices, with several individual stocks recording multi-year or record highs even as a slightly larger number of issues finished lower.
