Greece's main bourse finished slightly in the red on Monday, with the Athens General Composite declining 0.03% at the close as selling in Telecoms, Household and Basic Resources outweighed pockets of strength elsewhere.
The session's top performers included HELLENiQ ENERGY Holdings SA (AT:HEPr), which advanced 4.21% - a gain of 0.48 points - to finish at 11.87. Athens Water (AT:EYDr) rose 3.79%, gaining 0.46 points to close at 12.60, while Noval Property Real Estate Investment Co (AT:NOVALr) added 3.19% or 0.08 points to end the day at 2.59.
At the other end of the tape, Athens Medical (AT:AMCr) recorded the steepest fall, sliding 5.03% or 0.09 points to 1.70 at the close. Avax SA (AT:AVAr) declined 2.52%, losing 0.09 points to end at 3.48, and Unibios Holdings SA (AT:VILr) decreased 2.45% or 0.07 points to 2.79.
Market breadth tilted to the downside, with 65 stocks closing lower against 53 gainers on the Athens Stock Exchange; 14 names finished unchanged.
Notably, shares of HELLENiQ ENERGY (AT:HEPr) and Athens Water (AT:EYDr) rose to five-year highs as they posted the session's largest percentage gains.
Commodities moved sharply during the trading session. Gold Futures for August delivery plunged 2.42% - down $99.65 - to $4,014.05 a troy ounce. Oil prices climbed: Crude oil for August delivery gained 3.89% or $2.78 to $74.19 a barrel, while the September Brent contract rose 3.88% or $2.95 to $78.96 a barrel.
Currency and index movements were mixed. EUR/USD was virtually unchanged, slipping 0.09% to 1.14, while EUR/GBP moved 0.16% to 0.85. The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 100.92.
Additional tickers and sector indices recorded session moves included FTATRES (-1.16%), FTATHOU (-1.28%) and FTATTEL (-1.44%). ATG registered a marginal decline of 0.03%.
