Vodafone said it will bring a managed detection and response security offering and an agentic AI customer-engagement product to its small business customers under a $1 billion strategic partnership with Google Cloud agreed in October 2024. The security service, powered by Google Security Operations, will debut in Germany and then expand to other European markets later this year. Vodafone Business AI Concierge with Google Gemini, intended to handle customer inquiries and appointment bookings, will initially be available in Greece and Germany. Pricing has not been announced.

Key Points

  • Vodafone will offer a managed detection and response security product enabled by Google Security Operations as part of a $1 billion strategic partnership with Google Cloud agreed in October 2024 - initially launching in Germany.
  • Vodafone Business AI Concierge with Google Gemini is an agentic AI product designed to answer customer inquiries and book appointments - initially available in Greece and Germany.
  • Pricing for both the security service and the AI Concierge has not been announced, and broader European rollout for the security product is planned later this year.

Vodafone announced new service offerings for its small business customers that combine advanced cybersecurity capabilities with an agentic artificial intelligence tool, leveraging the companies' $1 billion strategic tie-up with Google Cloud agreed in October 2024.

The security solution will be delivered as a managed detection and response service enabled by Google Security Operations and is intended to protect small businesses from rising volumes and sophistication of cyber threats, Vodafone said. The security product is scheduled to launch first in Germany - a market cited for strict data protection standards - before being rolled out across further European markets later this year.

Alongside the security service, Vodafone is introducing an agentic AI product called Vodafone Business AI Concierge with Google Gemini. Vodafone said the AI Concierge is designed to interact with a small business's customers to answer inquiries and book appointments. Initial availability for the AI Concierge will be in Greece and Germany, the company said.

"By combining our network and support with Google Cloud’s AI expertise, we’re making advanced, secure AI practical for everyday business use - starting with innovations like AI Concierge, one of the first telephony integrations with Gemini," Vodafone’s business product and international business director Fanan Henriques said.

Vodafone did not disclose pricing for either the managed detection and response security service or the Vodafone Business AI Concierge. The company framed both initiatives as ways to enable small businesses to adopt AI and enhanced security without added complexity or undue risk.

The staged launch schedule places the security product initially within Germany to align with local data protection requirements, with a wider European rollout expected later in the year. The AI Concierge will begin in Greece and Germany before any wider availability is announced. Other commercial and technical details, including pricing and exact rollout timelines beyond the markets identified, were not provided.

These product introductions are part of the strategic cooperation with Google Cloud, announced in October 2024 and valued at $1 billion, under which Vodafone will integrate Google Cloud technology into services targeting its small business customer base.

Context note: The information above reflects Vodafone's announcement about the managed security and agentic AI services, their initial market availability, and the status of pricing and rollout details as provided by the company.

Risks

  • Pricing for both the managed security service and AI Concierge has not been disclosed - this introduces uncertainty for small businesses and could affect adoption decisions.
  • Compliance and data protection considerations shaped the decision to launch the security product first in Germany, indicating regulatory and privacy constraints could impact rollout timing across other European markets.
  • The products are positioned to address rising cyber threats, implying that evolving threat patterns remain a continuing source of risk for small business operations.
