Turkey's equity market closed in negative territory on Monday, with the BIST 100 index ending the session down 0.71% in Istanbul trading as losses in the Sports, Banking and Telecoms sectors pressured the benchmark.
At the close, the benchmark fell 0.71% from its prior finish. Market breadth reflected the downturn: 345 stocks declined, 257 advanced and 15 finished unchanged on the Istanbul Stock Exchange.
Top performers
- Kontrolmatik Teknoloji Enerji ve Mu (IS:KONTR) led gains on the BIST 100, rising 9.98% or 1.31 points to finish at 14.43.
- Efor Yatırım Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (IS:EFOR) climbed 9.95% or 0.81 points to end the session at 8.95.
- Katilimevim Tasarruf Finansman AS (IS:KTLEV) advanced 9.29% or 7.90 points to close at 92.90.
Notably, shares of Katilimevim Tasarruf Finansman AS reached an all-time high during the session, closing at 92.90 following the 9.29% gain.
Largest decliners
- Fenerbahce Futbol AS (IS:FENER) was the weakest name on the index, losing 9.97% or 0.32 points to trade at 2.89 at the close.
- Kiler Holding AS (IS:KLRHO) fell 8.09% or 9.70 points to finish at 110.20.
- Pasifik Gayrimenkul Yatirim Ortakligi AS (IS:PSGYO) declined 7.62% or 0.23 points to end at 2.79.
Commodities and FX
Precious metals and energy markets moved noticeably during the session. Gold futures for June delivery lost 1.08%, down $52.80 to $4,826.80 a troy ounce. On the energy front, June delivery crude oil rose 4.92%, gaining $4.06 to trade at $86.65 a barrel, while the June Brent contract increased 5.11% or $4.62 to $95.00 a barrel.
Currency pairs involving the Turkish lira also showed modest moves. USD/TRY ticked up 0.06% to 44.87 and EUR/TRY rose 0.30% to 52.92. The US Dollar Index Futures was marginally lower, down 0.05% at 97.85.
The session closed with a clear split between individual winners and losers across sectors, and with commodity and currency markets registering material intraday shifts. Market participants will likely watch whether the breadth observed today broadens or narrows in subsequent sessions.
